Why Prime & Ledger

Most owners hear from their accountant twice a year.

Once to request documents. Once to deliver a return — and an invoice.

Everything that could have changed the outcome happens in the ten months in between: the entity decision, the equipment purchase, the timing of a bonus, the estimate that should have been adjusted in June. That is where we do our best work.

The result is a return with no surprises in it, and an owner who already knows what next year looks like.

Proactive, not reactive

Planning happens before year-end, while decisions can still move the number.

A CPA who knows you

No rotating staff and no re-explaining your business every spring.

Clear from the start

A written scope and a fixed fee before any work begins. No hourly meter running.

Services

Complete tax and accounting, under one roof.

For the business and for the people who own it — because the two returns tell one story, and they should be written by the same person.

Our commitments

What you can count on.

Every firm lists what it does. These are the standards we hold ourselves to — including the things we will not do.

Always

  • A fixed fee in writing before any work begins
  • The same CPA on your file every year
  • A walkthrough of what drove the result
  • Answers in October, not only in April
  • Positions documented well enough to defend
  • A straight answer when the aggressive option is not worth the risk

Never

  • An invoice larger than the proposal
  • A return prepared by someone you have never spoken to
  • A charge for every phone call and email
  • A strategy priced as a percentage of the savings
  • Advice you need a second opinion to understand
  • Silence in April because too much work was taken on

New under the One Big Beautiful Bill Act

No Tax on Tips changed more than paychecks.

The 2025 tax law gave tipped workers a new federal deduction. It also permanently expanded the employer's FICA tip credit — for the first time reaching salons, spas, barbershops and other personal-care businesses, alongside restaurants and bars.

If your 2025 return was filed without it, an amended return can still claim it. Restaurants and bars may have earlier open years to recover as well.

Request a credit review
  • A dollar-for-dollar creditThe employer's share of Social Security and Medicare tax on qualifying tips, claimed on Form 8846.
  • Newly eligible in 2025Beauty and personal-care businesses with W-2 tipped employees.
  • Up to $25,000 for workersA separate deduction for qualified tips, 2025 through 2028, subject to income limits.
  • Already filed? Amend. The credit can be claimed on an amended return for years that remain open.
Eligibility depends on facts including wages actually paid, tip reporting and the business's tax position. A review confirms whether and how much applies.

FAQ

Good questions to ask any firm.

Don't see yours? Ask it on the intake form and it will be answered directly.

How are your fees structured?

Every engagement has a fixed fee based on its scope, agreed in writing before work begins. There is no hourly billing and no charge for routine questions. The fee changes only if the scope does — and never without your approval first.

Do we need to meet in person?

No. The firm is fully remote and serves clients nationwide. Documents are exchanged through a secure portal, meetings happen by video or phone, and returns are signed electronically.

Our books are behind. Can you still help?

Yes, and it is more common than most owners think. Catch-up bookkeeping and late or unfiled returns are routine work. The sooner the position is known, the more options remain — and penalties can often be reduced or abated.

How do we switch from our current CPA?

We handle it. With your authorization, we request prior returns, depreciation schedules and workpapers directly from your previous firm. Transitions work at any point in the year.

Can you help lower our taxes?

Where the law supports it, yes — many legitimate opportunities go unclaimed simply because no one looked. Where it does not, you will hear that plainly. Be wary of anyone who guarantees a result or prices advice as a share of the savings.

What kinds of clients are the best fit?

Owner-led businesses and the individuals behind them, typically with more complexity than software handles well: multiple entities, pass-through income, multi-state activity, equity compensation or real estate.

Do you work with other accounting firms?

Yes. Firms that lack capacity for credits, amended returns or partnership adjustment filings refer that work to us, and the client relationship returns to them afterward.
